Denman Island Climate Action Network (DICAN)

History

In 2018 Ron Wilson organized a series of climate related workshops at the Denman Community School.  Various experts presented information about climate related topics such as: small scale power possibilities, Evs, the pollution caused by plastics etc.  Guy Dauncy was invited to speak about climate action in BC.  After his inspiring talk a list of potential members was drawn up and DICAN was born.

Description

DICAN, as its name implies is a network of people and committees who come together to promote awareness, host events and initiate projects that are related to climate change.  Letter writing cafes, Repair cafes, Earth Day projects, plastic reduction workshops, student climate signs, articles in local papers and an energy efficient heat pump for the Old School are some of the things DICAN has spearheaded.
