- This initiative by Plastic Free Denman & the Climate Action Committee is a way of encouraging action on topics we feel are urgent. We see this as a way of getting people out, joining in discussion, doing something positive and (hopefully) effective and help us to feel less helpless and isolated in the face of the on-going dire news about climate change. Our committees would like to connect with other groups in various locations to encourage Letter Writing Cafés everywhere. This would create a much larger impact, develop awareness and unite us in times of uncertainty. For those who cannot march on Fridays for Climate Action, for those who are discouraged by the lack of progress and the slowness of politicians to make meaningful changes in legislation, these cafes are at least an opportunity to act.

- (Sowing Potatoes Underground for Denman Sustainability) – a grassroots local food sustainability initiative started in 2008, initially providing affordable access to land for organic potato growing. Guided by a membership developed Basis of Unity statement, SPUDS is committed to low carbon, stock-free growing techniques and consensus decision making. - “The most fun club on Denman” meets every 3rd Wednesday at 1:30 pm in the United Church Hall.
- Food Bank

- School Garden
- A collaborative effort between the Denman Community School and the Denman Island Community Education Society (DICES). Includes fruit trees and garden beds. Provides hands-on learning opportunities primarily for students such as growing food for school lunches and the food bank, as well as space for community workshops like tree pruning.

- ( under DIRA) – The purpose of this committee is to seek information, explore options and develop a plan of action for encouraging Denman Island to be pesticide free, and promote toxic free living to the greatest extent possible. Chair: Peter Thomsen
