Further context about the June 10th day of action:
People around the province will be participating in a unified day of action to demand immediate logging deferrals in at-risk old growth forests in solidarity with Indigenous land defenders and their allies at Fairy Creek, as well as other affected Nations and communities. We’re at a critical tipping point in the push to get the B.C. government to protect these ancient giants. And while there have been so many incredible solidarity actions in the past months, we think that standing all together on June 10th could have a big impact.
Constituents are being asked to gather in their local riding and host a creative protest outside their MLA’s office to let them know that old growth is #WorthMoreStanding.
A note on solidarity: This day of action is being planned because ancient forests are imminently at risk, but more broadly because Indigenous rights and sovereignty continue to be violated in the wake of resource extraction. All old growth forests across the province are on unceded, ancestral Indigenous lands — the long term management plan must include FULL, consent based engagement with Indigenous Nations and their diverse set of voices.
