Walk for Mother Earth
April 15, 2021 - April 16, 2021
On April 16th we begin the Spring Rebellion at the Olympic Flame in downtown Vancouver and walk to the BC Legislature in Victoria. Over 4 days we will walk to demand that governments tell the truth about the unfolding ecological catastrophe, and be led by citizens assemblies in order to halt biodiversity loss and runaway climate change. Sign up to join all or part of the Walk here! https://actionnetwork.org/events/walk-for-the-salish-sea
A robed Walker will to carry a Declaration to the Legislature demanding: “that a Citizens’ Assembly be struck to address the climate emergency and the Salish Sea.”
The BC government has broken their promise to review fossil fuel subsidies, and have instead increased them. They have broken their promise to enact endangered species legislation. They continue to allow the last productive old growth forests to be clear-cut. They have failed to take any meaningful action to stop the TMX expansion, and refuse to be transparent about large projects such as Site C. There is little hope that they will do what is right if the people do not rebel.
Corporations lead us in a death march, and governments feed us empty promises and lies. In rebellion we walk in a different direction. We walk in grief for our dying world, in gratitude for all that remains, and in determination to turn things around and confront those who value power and profit over people and all life on earth.
All are welcome to join for all or part of the journey – get in touch to connect with the walkers and organizers. Locations and approximate schedule are posted in the discussion section.
All walkers will be asked to maintain physical distance and respect covid guidelines!
