This webinar, offered for free by the Comox Valley Regional District, is all about sustainable ways to protect the shoreline as increased extreme weather, rising sea levels, and impacts of increased development trigger erosion and loss of land.
People tend to want to build sea walls and groynes, or simply pile up logs against the sea, all of which will actually exacerbate the problem in the long run, destroy habitat, and permanently disrupt natural processes. The “green shores” approach which will be explained in the webinar works in harmony with the forces of nature to create long-term solutions and, as a bonus, provides a more natural look.
