Reduce, Reuse, Repurpose ,Repair, Recycle, Rejoice!
Let’s make our stuff last longer. Choosing to fix broken things instead of replacing them, we consume less and create fewer greenhouse gases.
Our group planned a workshop to teach islanders how to repair hand tools: garden implements, hammers, axes and so on. Several local experts volunteered to be the leaders. They would show people how to mend their own stuff. The Hardware Store was going to order in extra supplies so people could buy replacement parts on the island.
The first repair cafe was going to be held outdoors on the basketball court beside the old school on April 5. If it rained we’d go under the roof of the recycling area.
Regrettably it was postponed due to COVID 19. We hope to hold this event when physical distancing guidelines are relaxed.
